EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a researched-based method of therapy for dealing with unresolved trauma and distressing life events that often produces more rapid results than traditional talk therapy.

EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.

EMDR Intensives

Personalized treatment through an EMDR intensive is highly concentrated, focused, and effective. Transformational healing may occur with fewer treatment hours than would be expected with traditional talk therapy and/or a symptom management approach. The process is more efficient and may require less session time and less cost.

Is an EMDR Intensive Right for Me?

  •      Perhaps you’ve a felt a sense that something has yet to change. Maybe you now understand new things, yet your body is still confused.
  •    Perhaps you want to incorporate EMDR therapy into your work with your primary talk therapist.
  •     Perhaps you’ve been meaning to get into weekly therapy for a while now, but your schedule has been so hectic and demanding that a weekly therapy appointment feels more overwhelming than supportive.
  •      Perhaps you’re needing help —- and a lot of it—- right now, and you don’t want to spend months in the traditional weekly model of therapy treatment to feel better.
  •     Perhaps you are a current, weekly client who is needing extra, focused support quickly.
  •    Perhaps you are a new client who just prefers to work intensively.
  •    Perhaps you had a recent experience from which you are seeking relief.
  •     Perhaps you had an ongoing traumatic experience that is impacting your daily life.

FAQs

  • Who can benefit from EMDR?

Individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, unhelpful beliefs, challenging relationship patterns, or a recent or ongoing traumatic event and seeking relief, connection, peace and joy!

EMDR addresses the symptoms stemming from adverse life experiences including, but not limited to, traumatic experiences. EMDR is not just for trauma; it is also utilized for a variety of treatment goals, including performance enhancement.

  • Why an intensive instead of a typical 50-minute psychotherapy session?

EMDR intensives are designed to support you in working toward your treatment goals with a proven and structured method. An intensive format may decrease overall treatment time because of time not spent on a) addressing current crises and concerns, b) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills between sessions, c) checking in and wrapping up at the beginning and end of each session. EMDR Intensives allow you to progress through your symptoms of anxiety, depression, and more, in a focused way without the interruption of a 50—minute session.

  • If I’m already a weekly client, can I participate in an EMDR intensive?

Yes. EMDR intensives for current clients are available in modified formats and pricing. If you are a current client, please reach out to me for a customized treatment proposal. I welcome the opportunity to continue supporting you.

  • If I already have a primary therapist, can I do an EMDR intensive as adjunct therapy?

Yes. Perhaps you’ve felt a sense that something has yet to change. Maybe you now understand new things, yet your body is still confused. Let’s chat about how we can work together as a collaborative team to support you in reaching your goals.

  • What can I expect to accomplish in a EMDR intensive?

Identify areas from which you are seeking relief and symptoms you’d like to alleviate.

Develop resources and tools to assist you with coping with life-stressors.

Work toward reducing and/or eliminating thoughts, beliefs, patterns, body sensations, emotions, and such.

  • Which Intensive is right for me?

We will work together to identify what format is best for your and your treatment goals.
